About PChemLabs

PChemLabs, Optical and Vacuum Instruments, is a small scientific company located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We employ innovative ideas to develop scientific instrumentation for research, industrial, and military applications. Our current research efforts are focused on the development of new semiconductor laser devices and laser-based diagnostics applications. These projects include the development of laser based diagnostic systems using Raman spectroscopic techniques, tunable mid-IR single mode semiconductor light sources from quantum well lasers, and compact portable femtosecond laser systems utilizing mode-locked Ti-Sapphire lasers.  We are currently seeking scientists for all three of these projects. If you are interested in working with our company please apply per the instructions below.

Description for Laser Spectroscopy Position

We seek a highly motivated and experienced scientist to conduct laser spectroscopy experiments at our research facility located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The current project focuses on using Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy (SRS) as a laser-based spectroscopic diagnostics and characterization technique. The initial objective for this research is to build a working SRS spectrometer using research lasers (Nd:YAG, dye, and argon ion lasers). This SRS spectrometer will be used to detect and measure the concentration of important species found in the atmosphere and industrial processes.

The successful candidate for this position will work with our current scientists and vendors/partners to develop and possibly scale-up an ultra-sensitive SRS spectrometer. The primary responsibilities for this position are to work within a team environment to:

  • Lead the development and installation of a sensitive simulated Raman spectroscopic (SRS) system using research laser instruments.
  • Record SRS data for the species of interest, which are important to the atmosphere and industrial processes.
  • Model the SRS data to approximate the lower detection limit of the SRS spectrometer.
  • Develop and design an Ultra-Sensitive compact SRS for portable concentration measurements and species detection studies.
  • Supervise the current project and provide day-to-day instructional support for other projects within our research group.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements

  • PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience in spectroscopy (laser-based) processes and characterization techniques.
  • At least three years of experience operating typical research laser systems (Nd:YAG, dye lasers, Argon Ion) and employing common spectroscopic methods, e.g., Raman spectroscopy, laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy, or any other laser-based spectroscopic method.
  • Must be familiar with and feel comfortable talking about molecular energy levels (rotational, vibrational, and electronic) and spectroscopic transitions.
  • Strong problem solving, interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills to meet multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to coordinate groups in multiple sites, network with customers and suppliers, and work as team player.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
